Custard Ice Cream (Old Recipe)

1 cup sugar
1 Tab Cornstarch
2 Cups whole mile (4%)
3 egg yokes
1 Tab vanilla
2 quarts half & half
3 egg whites, beaten

place the sugar, cornstarch, milk, and egg yolks in double boiler and make into custard
Remove from fire, add the tablespoon of vanilla and let cool
Por mixture into an old-fashioned ice cream freezer, add
2 quarts of milk and cream (half & half) Freeze for short time.
Remover cover very carefully so as to keep salt from getting into mixture.
Add the 3 beten egg whites.
Cover freezer again, turning very rapidly toward the end to whip ice cream into smooth, creamy mixture.

They did not have electric ice cream makers when this receipe started being used. Yes, you can use an electric one.
