Fry Bread
This recipe was given to me a long time ago. Not sure who it belonged to…but it is good.
4 cups of flour
4 Tab sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 quart mil (from dry milk powder)
2 eggs
1 stick butter or margarine…melted
2 packages of dry yeast
Mix all the dry ingredients except the yeast
Mix warm water with dry milk poweder to make 1 quart
Add milk mixture to dry ingredients
Add eggs and melted butter, mix well
Add 2 packages dry yeast…mix all ingredients well
knead dough to a good consistency and form into a ball. G
reaswe a large bowl. Put ball of dough in bowl and let rise to the top of the bowl…about 45-60 minutes
punch dough down and let rise again
In frying pan heat oil/vegtable oil. When pretty hot test the oil with a little pice of dough
form samll balls and flatten them about 4 inches round and 1/2 inch tall. punch hole in center of dough and place in oil. cook until golden brown on one side, turn it over and cook until brown.
Remove and drain on paper towels
Put any of these you like on them: cinnamon and sugar, honey, jam, butter, refrieds, pinto, chili, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, meat…whatever you like.
